Amogelang Tatai and Glenrose Xaba were crowned Elite Men’s and Women’s Champions of the Boxer Super Run Durban on Sunday 18 October 2026, delivering standout performances at South Africa’s most social 5km run.

Celebrating his Boxer Super Run debut on the day, Amogelang Tatai claimed the elite men’s title in 13:38.

“My plan was just to stick with the first group, but from the start, one of the athletes (defending champion Ryan Mphahlele) made a break, so I had to chase him,” admits Tatai. “It was tough as I lost most of my strength during the race, so I couldn’t finish strongly. It was an amazing experience to run here with the senior athletes, who have more experience than me. I’m quite proud of myself for beating them.”

Ryan Mphahlele came in second, while Musawenkosi Mnisi finished third.

Glenrose Xaba took top honours in the elite women’s race in 15:29, rounding off an exciting day of running on Durban’s streets.

“My race was good, and I feel fine,” said a very happy Xaba. “We started very fast, but because the course is challenging, your legs only start to find their rhythm again after you climb the hill. I’m happy with my performance today. The competition was very good and impressive, especially with the younger runners coming through. Karabo More is doing very well and was the one who was going to challenge me, but I was able to put it all together and win the race.”

In closing Xaba gives a deserved shoutout to Boxer for their support. “It’s good to finish first today because Boxer is always there supporting us through the good and bad times. Even when you’re injured, you know they are going to support you. This is my way of showing them that their support is much appreciated.”

Karabo More came in second, while Kyla Jacobs finished third.

The Boxer Super Run boasts four dedicated start waves. While entry to the ELITE WOMEN and ELITE MEN waves is by invitation only, runners can choose between the OPEN WAVE and SUPER SOCIAL WAVE according to the type of race-day experience they are looking for.

Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, praised the outstanding performances of the elite athletes and the enthusiastic support of participants, highlighting the Boxer Super Run Durban’s unique ability to bring people together through a shared love of running.

“The Boxer Super Run Durban was a fantastic celebration of running, bringing together elite athletes, social runners and families for an unforgettable 5km experience. Congratulations to our elite men’s and women’s winners, Amogelang Tatai and Glenrose Xaba, on their outstanding performances,” says Meyer. “Their achievements added to the excitement of the day, while the incredible energy and enthusiasm of everyone who took part made this event truly special. The Boxer Super Run is all about making running accessible, fun and inclusive, and it’s wonderful to see so many people embracing the spirit of the event.”

As title sponsor, Boxer Superstores is proud to be part of an event that brings people together through a shared love of running. Reflecting on the Durban event, Lee-Ann Pillay, Head of Marketing at Boxer Superstores, thanked the local community for its support and looked ahead to the next stop on the Boxer Super Run calendar.

“Durban, you were amazing! A big thank you to everyone who came out to run, cheer and be part of the Boxer Super Run. The energy and support made the day really special, and congratulations to Amogelang Tatai and Glenrose Xaba on their fantastic performances in the ELITE MEN’S and ELITE WOMEN’S Waves. It’s always great to see people of all ages and abilities coming together to enjoy being active. We’ve loved every moment of Durban, and now we’re looking forward to bringing that same energy to Johannesburg for the Boxer Super Run Joburg in November!”

First Press Release: The first press release was published in October 1906 by Ivy Lee on behalf of the Pennsylvania Railroad. After a tragic accident, Lee issued a statement to reporters rather than concealing the facts, and the first press release was born! The release secured praise for the railroad’s honesty and was even reprinted in the New York Times. (Source: Meltwater)
