Another sign of collapse in South Africa’s most important city | SA News


Construction mafias have laid siege to Johannesburg, with ward councillors being murdered over lucrative government contracts or dying because of the stress.

That is the dire message from Lucinda Harman, councillor for Ward 102 in Johannesburg, which includes affluent areas such as the Randburg central business district and Bryanston.

Harman said governance in South Africa’s largest and richest city was collapsing under the weight of factional battles, legal threats, and chronic intimidation.
