Dear Editor
The DA in the Eastern Cape congratulates Dr Fiona Brown on her election as Chairperson of the Technical Services Portfolio Committee in the Blue Crane Route Municipality.
Dr Brown has served as a DA Councillor in Blue Crane Route for the past eight years and was elected to her new position by a majority vote in council.
Over the years, she has demonstrated her commitment to public service and community development. Her hard work, particularly in by-elections, has helped the party increase its support in the municipality.
Fiona has also been part of teams that successfully contested three by-elections, winning all three and expanding the DA’s influence in the municipality. Notably, her team secured Ward 5 from the ANC in 2021 and, more recently, Ward 4 in April 2023, leading to an equal number of seats for both the DA and ANC in council. This growth allows the DA to lead the Municipal Executive Committee by a two-to-one seat margin, bringing new hope to the people of Blue Crane Route.
She also brings to the portfolio her academic experience, holding a doctoral degree in Geography and Environmental Management, which she obtained in 2009 from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She earned this distinction after completing her undergraduate degree at the same institution in 2000, graduating with a Bachelor of Social Science.
Fiona recognises the significant challenges facing infrastructure-related service delivery in the Blue Crane Route Municipality and is committed to implementing much-needed improvements in her new role.
We wish Dr Brown the best of luck in her new position.
Regards
Dr Malcolm Figg
Zuurberg Constituency Leader
