GOOD Statement by Brett Herron, GOOD Secretary-General & Member of the Western Cape Parliament:

The GOOD Party welcomes any effort to root out corruption and safeguard public resources. We commend the South African Police Service’s Commercial Crime Investigation Unit for its coordinated search and seizure operation targeting alleged municipal procurement irregularities in the City of Cape Town. The scale of the operation is a stark indicator of the seriousness of the allegations.

At this stage, we are not in possession of full details regarding the specific contracts or companies involved. Until this information is made public, we cannot confirm whether these matters relate to issues currently under review by Council oversight task teams or committees.

While the Democratic Alliance frequently holds up Cape Town as a model of clean governance, the pattern of emerging scandals tells a different story. It points to systemic failures in oversight, accountability, and due diligence within the City of Cape Town.

Corruption must be confronted at every level, national, provincial, and local, and GOOD will continue to support all efforts that promote transparency, accountability, and honest service delivery.

GOOD Policy Focus: GOOD advocates for policies that promote economic growth and job creation.
