The Union Bordeaux-Bègles second row, Cyril Cazeaux has been suspended for one week following the decision of an independent Judicial Officer arising from the Investec Champions Cup quarter-final match between Union Bordeaux-Bègles and Munster Rugby at Stade Chaban Delmas on Saturday, 12 April.
Cazeaux was sent off by the referee, Nika Amashukeli (Georgia), in the 74th minute of the match following a second yellow card offence. The first yellow card was received in the 46th minute for a dangerous tackle. The second yellow card was also received for a dangerous tackle.
The independent Judicial Officer, Charles Cuthbert (England), considered the case on a papers-only basis and he upheld the red card. He determined that two weeks was the appropriate entry point.
Taking into account the player’s timely acceptance of the charge, his good disciplinary record and his full co-operation with the disciplinary process, he decided to reduce the sanction by the maximum of 50% before imposing a one-week suspension.
Cazeaux is free to play on Monday 21 April. Both the player and EPCR have the right to appeal the decision.
