The personal outstanding municipal debt of councillors and officials of the ANC-led Matlosana Local Municipality currently amounts to more than R25 million.

In April 2026, the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) sent a letter to the Speaker, Stella Mondlane-Ngwenya, insisting that the growing debt has to be collected. The Municipal Council then adopted a resolution that the Speaker would, in terms of municipal legislation, confront the councillors concerned and that the Municipal Manager, Lesego Seametso, must ensure that the credit control and debt collection policy is strictly applied to officials as well.

Despite this, the relevant officials’ outstanding debt shot up by more than R10 million within a period of just seven months (November 2025 to June 2026) – from R15 million to R25,3 million.

The Freedom Front Plus pointed out on several occasions since 2025 that this situation is totally unacceptable, and in contravention of the Code of Conduct for Councillors and the relevant municipal legislation.

It is, therefore, clear that both Mondlane-Ngwenya and Seametso are guilty of dereliction of duty and violating municipal legislation.

It is an absolute disgrace that the municipal management, councillors and officials who are supposed to set an example for the community are, instead, promoting a culture of lawlessness in Matlosana through their laxity and dereliction.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep exposing such abuses, while fighting to restore an ethical and professional municipal administration in Matlosana.

The voters of Klerksdorp, Stilfontein, Orkney and Hartbeesfontein should use their votes on 4 November to oust the ANC from local government in Matlosana.
