JOHANNESBURG: The latest round of the Hollywoodbets Pro Series saw the Proteas Women back in action on the domestic stage, with fierce competition in both the Hollywoodbets Pro50 and Pro20 formats over the weekend.

Fidelity Titans hosted the DP World Lions in the much-anticipated Jukskei derby in Centurion, while Hollywoodbets Dolphins travelled to Bloemfontein to take on the Knights.

Hollywoodbets Pro50: Saturday, 02 November

Titans won the toss and opted to bat, setting a target of 232 runs. Katherine Prior led with an impressive half-century (56 runs), supported by Gandhi Jafta (34), Sune Luus (32), and Rasika Maharaj, who finished with an unbeaten 26.

DP World Lions’ bowling attack was led by captain Kgomotso Rapoo, who claimed three wickets, with Relebohile Mkhize, Jenna Evans, and Madison Landsman all taking two wickets each.

In response, batting efforts from Sunette Viljoen-Louw (46), Tazmin Brits (40), and Nonkululeko Thabethe (35) weren’t enough, as the Lions were dismissed for 175, handing the Titans a 56-run victory.

Alysia Rudolph excelled with the ball, recording 3/11, while Luus and Jafta each took two wickets to complement their contributions with the bat.

Meanwhile, Knights opted to bat first but were contained to 187/9 in 50 overs. Izel Cilliers top-scored with a resilient 65, supported by Zintle Kula (36) and Anica Swarts (24).

Dolphins’ bowlers kept the pressure on, with Ayanda Hlubi leading with figures of 3/27, while Nondumiso Shangase claimed two wickets, successfully limiting the Knights to a chasable score.

Chasing 188, Alexandra Candler (68) and Nicole De Klerk (39) steered the Dolphins to victory, reaching the target in 38 overs with three wickets to spare.

Hollywoodbets Pro20:  Sunday, 03 November

On Sunday, Lions sought quick redemption in the Pro20 format. Sarah Nettleton led a fierce bowling display, taking 5/11 to bowl out the Titans for a modest 101 in under 20 overs.

In the chase, Tazmin Brits (55*), Kirstie Thomson (22*), and Nonkululeko Thabethe (22) guided the Lions to a comfortable nine-wicket win, reaching the target in just 8.1 overs.

In Bloemfontein, a rain-affected match reduced play to just five overs per side. Dolphins set a revised target of 38 runs, and the Knights were restricted to 28/2 in their five overs, handing the Dolphins a four-wicket victory via DLS method.

The unique oval shape of rugby balls can be traced back to their original construction using leather casings and pig’s bladders. These early rugby balls retained the natural oval form of pig bladders, and despite modern manufacturing techniques, the traditional shape has been preserved.

The small gates through which cricket balls must pass through are called “wickets”. The term is used due to the similarity of the stumps to wicket gates, which are small pedestrian gates or doors.
