JOHANNESBURG: The stage is set for the inaugural International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup, scheduled to commence on Monday, 19 February 2024, in the picturesque city of Cape Town, South Africa.

This highly anticipated event will see 12 countries vying for glory over two weeks of thrilling cricket action.

The participating teams have been divided into two divisions: with Division A consisting of Australia, England, Canada, USA, Namibia, and Zimbabwe while Division B will see New Zealand, Sri Lanka, India, Wales, UAE, and the host nation, South Africa.

A total of 42 matches will unfold across premier league club and school grounds in Cape Town and its surrounds, showcasing the talents of some of the best Over-40s cricketers from around the globe.

The pinnacle of the tournament will be the final, taking place at the Wally Wilson Oval at Western Province Cricket Club on March 01, 2024.

All matches will be streamed live via PitchVision on the Veterans Cricket Association of South Africa (VCASA) YouTube channel, allowing fans worldwide to witness the excitement firsthand. Spectators are invited to attend all matches free of charge, with games commencing at 10h15 (SAST).

Roger Moult, Chairman of VCASA and Tournament Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the event;

“While the competition promises fierce on-field battles, it will also foster a strong social atmosphere, providing teams and supporters with ample opportunities to forge lasting bonds and celebrate the camaraderie of veterans cricket.

“As we have seen on many occasions in South Africa, sport brings people together. This tournament is no different, as we celebrate family, friendship, and make long-lasting connections,” he continued.

“Participants and visitors alike are encouraged to explore the vibrant city of Cape Town, from its iconic landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point to the scenic winelands…” concluded Moult.

With anticipation and excitement building, the inaugural International Masters Cricket Over-40s World Cup promises to be a truly unforgettable celebration of cricket excellence and global camaraderie.

    Some of the sports’ most loyal fans consider cricket their religion – and they have a god. His name is Sachin Tendulkar. Although there are cricketers with excellent numbers, Tendulkar’s fans may have a point. Over his 24-year long career, he has notched 34,357 runs, averaged 51.74 half-centuries in 664 international matches, and has achieved 100 centuries. This, along with his charisma, earned him the nickname, God of Cricket.
