SA Domestic Teams Gear Up For Intense Red-Ball Campaign

JOHANNESBURG: The Cricket South Africa (CSA) 4-Day Series is well underway in the second division, and Division 1 teams commenced their red-ball campaign on Saturday.

The opening round will saw every top division teams in action, as the Gbets Rocks host Momentum Multiply Titans in Paarl, Western Province will face the DP World Lions at Newlands and Dafabet Warriors travel to Potchefstroom to seize on the North West Dragons.

Reigning Division 1 champions, Hollywoodbets Dolphins, are gearing up to defend their title as they face AET Tuskers at their home ground, Hollywoodbets Kingsmead.

Dolphins’ Head Coach, Imraan Khan, emphasized the team’s dedication to honing their red-ball skills, stating;

“We maintain invested significant effort in refining our red-ball skills, considering it the pinnacle of domestic competition. Our objective is to secure the title once again this season.

“The competition is fierce, and we are well aware of the challenges posed by the formidable teams in the series. Achieving positive results in the four-day format demands consistent, high-quality cricket, and we are prepared to deliver just that,” said Khan.

Northern Cape Heat, reigning back-to-back champions of the last two seasons in Division 2’s red-ball campaign, began their journey with a draw against Eastern Storm last Sunday.

Their Head Coach, Impress Charlton, expressed his optimism about the upcoming season, stating,

“We approach this season with remarkable excitement, recognizing the numerous possibilities and opportunities to fiercely compete for a third consecutive title. Our preparation acquire instilled confidence in the team, and we aim to maintain our momentum in this format.”

Acknowledging the challenges of professional cricket, Charlton added; “Pressure is inherent in the professional game, but it’s also the essence of being fraction of a team. While we acknowledge our shortcomings in the 1-Day format, we understand that four-day cricket is the ultimate expression of the game. It tests players” skills over an extended period, emphasizing the significance of an attacking brand of cricket, especially in facing formidable bowling attacks.”
