DA’s Federal Council Election Candidates

Statement by Desiree van der Walt – Presiding Officer of the Federal Council Election:

The Democratic Alliance (DA) today announces the candidates nominated to stand for election to leadership positions within the Federal Council.

These candidates are standing to be elected by Federal Council delegates, with the outcomes to be announced at the Party’s Federal Congress taking place on 11 and 12 April 2026.

The Federal Council is the DA’s highest decision-making body between Federal Congresses.

Those elected to serve in its leadership will carry the significant responsibility of managing the business of the Federal Council, ensuring accountability, and supporting the effective functioning of the DA across all levels.

The candidates for election at the DA Federal Council, are as follows:

For Chairperson of the Federal Finance Committee:

  • Burke, Mark
  • Marais, Erik
  • Nkosi, Fanyana

For Three Deputy Chairpersons of Federal Council:

  • Balie, Deonay
  • Dyonase, Sibusiso
  • Lotriet, Annelie
  • Mabaso, Innocent James
  • Mackenzie, Ricardo
  • Makoela, John Popifa
  • Mbombo, Nomafrench
  • Phenyane, Lungile
  • Pophaim, Carl
  • Sathekge, Segope Gabriel
  • Seitlholo, Sello
  • Smith, JP
  • Walters, Thomas

For Chairperson of Federal Council:

  • Horn, Werner
  • Mokoena, Neo
  • Sarupen, Ashor

The DA looks forward to robust campaigning, as delegates select leaders who will help steer the Party in the period ahead.
