Do You Understand Blockchain?

17 October 2023 by Alan

An exciting new partnership between the BKT United Rugby Championship and LegendaryPlays will showcase the opportunity to collect video moments that unlock ‘money can’t buy’ real-life experiences and physical memorabilia.

Through the use of blockchain technology rugby supporters and sports fans will be able to own marquee video highlights in this contemporary approach to sports memorabilia collecting. Using exceptional 3D designs LegendaryPlays’ innovative approach to collectibles will showcase the best moments in BKT URC history, with the league providing a rich video archive of iconic club rugby moments.

Coming off the back of a record-breaking 2022/23 season and with the BKT URC’s engagement metrics rising across social media, attendances and broadcast audiences, these premium video moments are the latest step in broadening the appeal of the league and its teams to a global fanbase.

LegendaryPlays use of technology, their experience in rugby and their desire to build a sustainable web3 ecosystem made them the leading choice to deliver the BKT URC’s first-ever digital collectibles.

By focusing on the key principles of low-energy consumption and fan-friendly delivery, LegendaryPlays will allow these video moments to be permanently registered in the blockchain, and with no necessity for the fans to own a web3 wallet to access the service.

Martin Anayi, United Rugby Championship CEO, said: “The idea of collecting cards, stickers or match-worn memorabilia in sport has been around for over a century and now, thanks to LegendaryPlays, we are able to offer our fans a new digital route into an area that has been underserved in rugby for so long.

“As we open the door to a rich experience of digital collecting, it was fundamental that fans are protected and that we chose a partner who would not only provide that security but do so through the use of sustainable practices. The exciting part now is seeing how those special moments from past and present are captured as spectacular digital momentos that will increase affinity with our sport and appeal to the habits of modern fans.”

Philippe Fevrier, LegendaryPlays CEO, said; “Our aim with LegendaryPlays is to offer everyone new experiences so they can live their passion like never before, in a new and engaging way. For rugby fans, this will include access to incredible new videos, fun challenges and games, and being part of a community guided by strong values in order to share never-before-seen experiences.. In partnership with the URC, we are embracing the technology evolution and the transformation of its uses to think of new ways of getting fans closer to their passion.

We have been impressed by the dynamism that the URC has brought to rugby in recent years. They are an exceptional partner and we greatly admire their innovative approach and their ability to deliver new projects to their passionate and growing community. The signing of this partnership is an international extension for us, which goes beyond Europe and further demonstrates the confidence that professional rugby has in our approach.

With URC, TOP 14 and PRO D2 championships, LegendaryPlays is the place to be for all rugby fans”.
