Fighting Corruption in Government Is Embodied by Macpherson’s IDT Action

30 July 2025 by Guest

Dear Editor

The Democratic Alliance is keeping our promise to fight against corruption in government, and to cut it out in every way possible wherever we find it.

The DA is proud that Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, the DA’s Dean Macpherson, is enforcing real accountability for a grossly inflated tender that he uncovered and has stopped. The actions of the Minister are truly the turning of a new page for the culture of Public Works and Infrastructure.

The tender, for oxygen supply to public hospitals, had been inflated from R216-million to almost R600-million when Minister Macpherson intervened. South Africa has been saved almost R400-million by the actions of a DA Minister.

As with so many cases of insider deals, nepotism and corruption, many of the companies awarded work on this project did not legally qualify to carry it out. This is the kind of malfeasance that must be removed from government, and which the DA is working hard to do.

We warmly welcome that Minister Macpherson has taken instantaneous action to bring the criminal aspects of this scandal to the attention of the Hawks, for criminal investigation too.

All eyes are on the Hawks for criminal accountability to follow, now that action has been taken by Minister Macpherson.

The DA welcomes that disciplinary action is also recommended against the CEO of the Independent Development Trust, which facilitated this contract.

The DA is working hard every day to cut ANC corruption from South Africa.

Regards

Edwin Macrae Bath MP
DA Deputy Spokesperson on Public Works and Infrastructure
