The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) calls on Eskom and the Oudtshoorn Municipality to thoroughly inspect local electricity infrastructure, and to immediately repair and properly maintain it.

The latest power outage following damage to Eskom infrastructure has revealed the vulnerability of the region’s power supply and the serious consequences of poor maintenance.

Residents of the greater Oudtshoorn area simply cannot afford another outage similar to the one they have had to endure for the last four days.

Households, businesses, agriculture and tourism are suffering major losses, which directly jeopardises the local economy and job opportunities.

Various complaints from the community indicate that the maintenance of infrastructure is inadequate. Eskom and the Municipality should fulfil their responsibilities, identify problem areas, and come up with a clear plan for maintenance and upgrading.

The VF Plus expresses its appreciation for the technical teams who performed repair work under difficult circumstances during the latest outage.

Clearly, preventive maintenance and long-term planning are crucial to prevent a recurrence.

The VF Plus insists that Eskom and the Oudtshoorn Municipality prioritise infrastructure maintenance and upgrades.

Reliable power supply is indispensable for a functioning community and a viable local economy.

  • Publish the Call, Then Publish the Grade

Dear Editor, South African football fans argue about everything — lineups, referees, who should start up front. But there’s one argument we never have, because nobody gives us the numbers: were the predictions we read all week actually any good? I help run XG Mind AI, a small independent football data lab. Our rule is…
