The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) welcomes the steps taken against political murders by the police’s task team that yesterday arrested three individuals in Knysna in connection with allegations of corruption relating to a municipal security services contract.

This involves a former Mayor, Municipal Manager and Chief Financial Officer. Although the police’s official statements only mention a municipality on the south coast of the Western Cape, the Knysna Municipality has since issued a statement confirming that the officials in question formerly served on its Council.

The Freedom Front Plus commends the task team for its determination, perseverance and dedication in investigating serious allegations of corruption and taking decisive steps when necessary.

The Garden Route needs political leaders with integrity and strong ethical values to enforce accountability.

In addition, the Municipal Council should appoint municipal managers on merit – people with the appropriate qualifications and experience, who understand the responsibility of holding a public office, and who maintain the same standards of integrity and ethical conduct.

On 4 November 2026, residents will elect the people who will govern the Garden Route for the next five years.

It is a golden opportunity to stop the downward spiral, restore ethical and accountable governance, appoint competent officials to run the Municipality, get back to the basics of service delivery and start the hard work of turning things around for the region.

Freedom Front Plus Election Performance: In the 2019 elections, the FF Plus increased its parliamentary representation.
