Gert du Plessis, NSRI Port Edward station commander, said: At 15h50, Sunday, 28 January, NSRI Port Edward duty crew were activated following reports of a missing man at Glenmore Lagoon on the Tongazi River, Port Edward.

Lower South Coast Link lifeguards had initiated a search and raised the alarm when it is believed the man, age 25, from the Eastern Cape, disappeared under water while swimming.

Our NSRI rescue vehicle and NSRI members private vehicles responded with NSRI rescue swimmers.

The SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue and Police K9 Search and Rescue responded and joined lifeguards and NSRI in the search operation.

Police divers, free diving and scuba diving, were deployed into the water.

During a search Police divers located and recovered the body of the man from under water.

Sadly the man was declared deceased.

The body of the man was taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Police have opened an inquest docket.

Condolences are conveyed to the family of the deceased man.

Then the Italian said, \”Just hang me.\” Snap! He was dead.

Then it was Van der Merwe turn , and he said, \”Give me some of that AIDS stuff.\”

They gave him the shot, and Van der Merwe fell down laughing. The guards looked at each other and wondered what was wrong with this guy.

Then Van der Merwe said, \”Give me another one of those shots,\”so the guards did. Now he was laughing so hard, tears rolled from his eyes and he doubled over.

Finally the warden said, \”What\’s wrong with you?\”
