Goodbye TV licence — big-screen monitors to replace your TV | SA News


BMI TechKnowledge is currently developing a new, sustainable funding model for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC), which is likely to replace the TV licence scheme.

However, until the new funding model is implemented, which could still be a considerable distance away, South African residents require a TV licence to purchase a TV.

Both SABC CEO Nomsa Chabeli and board chair Khathutshelo Ramukumba have acknowledged that the scheme has failed and must be replaced.
