Hawks have only half the staff they need

Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations needs more investigators

The country’s organised crime and corruption-busting units presented their latest investigation and conviction tallies to Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts.
MPs were dismayed by the number of cases the National Prosecuting Authority declined to prosecute, and at the length of time it took for investigations to be concluded.
One of the presentations showed the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) was short of about 1,500 investigators.
