The City is almost finished building its first R200 million solar photovoltaic (PV) plant, located in Atlantis. We would like the new power plant to reflect the people, community and spirit that make up Atlantis, so we are asking learners and residents to help choose a name. A total of 12 850 solar panels are planned to power the local grid by the end of this year. This project has invested in upskilling local labour and creating business opportunities within the renewable energy sector.
‘We have made it as easy as possible for residents of Atlantis to find information about the competition with pamphlets available at schools across the area, and drop boxes available at the Wesfleur and Avondale Libraries, as well as the Subcouncil 1 office. The winner will be announced at a ceremony on site in December and will have the opportunity to meet Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis. The competition is open to Atlantis residents of all ages. Let’s build a City of Hope and light the way for a brighter future. We thank the residents and broader community of Atlantis,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.

Melktert – milk tart. One of South Africa’s most popular desserts consisting of a sweet pastry crust and a creamy milk filling, topped with cinnamon powder. Absolutely delicious!
