Saving is one of the most important aspects of personal financial management, offering many benefits and serving as a vital part of a sound financial strategy. However, saving is different from investing.

Investing is an effective way to make your money work for you. Kerryn Campion, COO of Aions Exchange, states that, “Through smart investment strategies, your funds can outpace inflation and grow in value over time. This potential for greater growth through investment is primarily driven by two key factors: the power of compounding, and the risk-return trade-off.

Compounding allows your investment returns to generate further returns, creating an accumulation of wealth over time. For example, if a stock investment paid you a 4% dividend yield and the stock itself increased in value by 5%, you’d have total earnings of 9% for the year. When these dividends and price gains compound over time, it is a form of compound earnings rather than interest.

The risk-return trade-off, on the other hand, means that while investments come with a higher level of risk compared to savings, they also offer the potential for higher returns. In simple terms, investors can expect higher returns for taking on more risk. If an investment is riskier, investors would expect a higher return as compensation.

Having an investment portfolio helps you achieve your long-term financial goals. For example, it can assist with a comfortable retirement, paying off your mortgage early, or even ensuring that your children’s university fees are paid off – giving you peace of mind.

While saving is ideal for purchasing tangible items or maintaining financial stability, investing is about securing your future wealth. By prioritising investments, you position yourself to build a healthy financial foundation that can withstand economic fluctuations and support your long-term goals.

With Aions Exchange (AEX), a unique offering for start-ups seeking funding as well as South Africans looking to build wealth, investors can a fractional share from as little as R50 in one of the businesses currently being mentored by Aions. All companies listed on AEX are high-growth start-ups, with an innovative and technologically advanced approach to real-world problems.

Aions Exchange is dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools to make informed financial decisions. Their comprehensive investment solutions and expert guidance help clients achieve their financial goals and secure their futures.

Even though saving has long been considered a cornerstone of financial security with an immediate output, investing emerges as a more powerful way for long-term wealth building, says Campion.

Show Me the Money: Before you put the PR movie list away, jot down one more title: Jerry Maguire. Technically, Tom Cruise’s titular character is a sports agent, not a PR pro – hence its exclusion from our list above – but many of his skills align with the industry. From managing client relationships to pitching and marketing, Jerry Maguire is filled with PR wisdom.
