Joburg Residents Hung Out to Dry in MoNC Vote

25 June 2025 by Guest

Dear Editor

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Johannesburg condemns every single party that voted to keep the Executive Mayor of Johannesburg, Cllr Dada Morero in office today.

While parties in council chose positions over principles today, the DA can proudly say that it brought forward a motion to dismiss the man presiding over Johannesburg’s decay. No amount of spin by a failing executive can conceal Johannesburg’s rot and decay – but the residents of Johannesburg will not forget.

While the order of the day has been political posturing, the DA can reveal that ActionSA’s abstention on the vote against Executive Mayor Dada Morero only came about because of their inability to convince the corrupt to give them more positions in the executive. Their abstention in today’s vote, which is just as good as a vote to keep Morero, is a cheap tool to keep the door for renegotiations open.

We thank the FF+ and ACDP for standing with us in supporting the MoNC against Morero.

Parties who kept Morero in Power:

  • ATM
  • GOOD
  • ANC
  • ActionSA
  • IFP
  • PAC
  • UIM
  • AL Jama-ah
  • PA
  • UDM
  • AIC

These parties have kept a failing Mayor, and his failing executive in power. They have kept our streetlights off, and roads filled with potholes. It has been made clear again, who is on the side of service delivery, and who is on the side of positions.

Regards

Cllr Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku
DA Johannesburg Caucus Leader
