Durban residents are invited to join the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series Team together with sponsors for a rewarding Beach Clean-Up on Saturday, 6 July 2024, from 08:30 to 10:00 at the Suncoast Amphitheatre Area, Promenade, Golden Mile. This initiative aims to create excitement and foster positive change the day before the 7th annual Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K, which will paint the streets of Durban red.

Commenting on the diverse benefits of the ‘Beach Clean-Up’, Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports and Founder of the Absa RUN YOUR CITY Series, says, “The ‘Beach Clean-Up’ is more than just a fun event bringing together residents, runners, and walkers. It acts as a catalyst for community-driven positivity. We invite all residents to come together to enhance Durban’s beauty ahead of the 7th annual Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K.”

A mass participation road race that boasts an impressive elite racing component especially in 2024, the Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K will showcase Durban’s stunning scenery, vibrant atmosphere, and wonderful community.

In closing Meyer adds: “The event team will provide gloves and refuse bags for all attendees, and we would like to thank Absa who will be providing delicious breakfast packs to all the dedicated volunteers upon completion of the ‘Beach Clean-Up’. To all Durban residents, join us in this community effort to make a difference as we prepare Durban to shine brightly for the 7th annual Absa RUN YOUR CITY DURBAN 10K this Sunday. Join us as we #RunYourCity.”

“We are happy to execute on a “Beach Clean-Up” initiative as part of our Force For Good,” says Jabulile Nsibanyoni, Head of Sponsorships at Absa. “This initiative is in line with our commitment to building healthier, cleaner, and more vibrant communities. As we work together to clean and beautify the city, we not only improve the environment, but also foster pride and ownership among our residents. Reforming the Rockefellers: Speaking of Ivy Lee, in 1914 he achieved another PR milestone when the wealthy Rockefeller family hired him to reform their image. A deadly coal strike had put the family under intense public scrutiny, and Lee organized an in-depth campaign to secure positive goodwill. His tactics include government relations, media relations and even public appearances that sent John D. Rockefeller to meet with the miners personally. The campaign pushed PR onto a much larger platform than ever before and helped define the industry’s relationship with corporations. (Source: Journal of Public Relations Research)
