Reigning African Championships 1500m gold medalist Karabo More will join the Women’s Month celebrations when she toes the line at the iconic Totalsports Women’s Race Joburg on Sunday, 16 August 2026.

Featuring both 5km and 10km events, the Totalsports Women’s Race Joburg welcomes everyone from elite athletes chasing victory to first-time participants and families enjoying an active morning together. More than just a race, it is an opportunity to unite in support of PinkDrive while celebrating Women’s Month in a vibrant atmosphere of camaraderie, fun and community spirit.

“As an athlete, I love being part of events that bring people together while also challenging me to push my own limits,” says More. “Seeing thousands of women standing on the same start line, each with her own story, dreams and reasons for being there, is incredibly powerful. It reminds us that we are stronger together. Whether you are running for a personal best, your health, your family or simply to prove something to yourself, every woman belongs on that start line.”

For More, it’s about more than just winning the race.

“Of course, I would love to win, but I also want to walk away knowing that I gave my absolute best and represented Boxer Athletics Club with pride.”

The Joburg race is known for its incredible atmosphere, with lively on-route entertainment and fantastic spectator support.

“The energy of thousands of women running together, combined with the support from the crowd, makes a huge difference,” she admits. “As an athlete, when you’re tired and your body is telling you to slow down, hearing people cheering can give you that extra push to keep going. That energy can completely change a race.”

The top athlete says that a victory in Joburg would mean a great deal to her.

“Winning in Joburg would reflect the hard work, discipline and sacrifices that go into preparing for every race. It would also be an honour to win an event that celebrates women and brings so many athletes and communities together.”

In closing, she shared the following message with fellow participants: “Believe in yourself. Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. When that gun goes off, remember how far you’ve come, how strong you are and why you started. Run with courage, run with purpose and, most importantly, run knowing that you belong there. Your story is powerful, your strength is enough, and today is your day to shine.”

According to Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports, Karabo More has established herself as one of South Africa’s most exciting middle-distance athletes.

“We are proud to welcome her to the Totalsports Women’s Race Joburg. Having an athlete of Karabo’s calibre on the start line is sure to motivate participants of all abilities, while adding to the excitement of what promises to be another memorable celebration of Women’s Month. We look forward to seeing her in action alongside thousands of women who will unite in support of PinkDrive.”

Nikki Crous, Head of Marketing at Totalsports, says More’s participation perfectly reflects the spirit of the Totalsports Women’s Race.

“We’re excited to welcome Karabo More to the Totalsports Women’s Race Joburg. Her passion for the sport and commitment to excellence make her a wonderful ambassador for an event that celebrates the strength, determination and unity of women while supporting the incredible work of PinkDrive.”

You don’t have journalists over there anymore, what they have is Public Relations people. That’s what they have over in America now. Two-hundred and fifty thousand people in Public Relations. And a dwindling number of actual reporters and journalists. –
