Landmark Recognition of Muslim Marriages With South Africa’s First Official Certificates

25 October 2024 by Guest

Dear Editor

The Democratic Alliance (DA) warmly welcomes the historic issuance of South Africa’s first-ever marriage certificates officially recognising Muslim marriages.

This milestone brings dignity and long-overdue equality to members of the Muslim community.

We commend the DA Minister of Home Affairs, Dr. Leon Schreiber, for his swift and meaningful work in making this a reality. This is a significant reform, providing Muslim couples and their families with the recognition they have always deserved.

This announcement follows a mere four months into the Minister’s diligent service in his role. It is a testament to his dedication to interventions that touch the lives of people and improve service delivery for South Africans.

Today marks an important step in building a South Africa that is truly inclusive and just. We celebrate alongside the Muslim community and look forward to the continued strengthening of our nation’s commitment to dignity, diversity, and human rights.

Regards

Karabo Khakhau MP
DA National Spokesperson

Dear Editor, South African football fans argue about everything — lineups, referees, who should start up front. But there’s one argument we never have, because nobody gives us the numbers: were the predictions we read all week actually any good? I help run XG Mind AI, a small independent football data lab. Our rule is…

Dear Editor, I run SAGrant (sagrant.co.za), a free resource helping South Africans navigate SASSA grants. SASSA has reminded beneficiaries that a grant review is not a cancellation. Fun South African Fact: It’s believed that Cape Town’s iconic Table Mountain is one of the oldest mountains in the world. Table mountain is approximately 260 million years old; it’s also home to thousands of species of plant life, including species unique to the Cape Floral Region. The glorious mountain is one of the world’s 7 New Natural Wonders. It is also apparently one of 12 main energy centres on the planet emitting spiritual, magnetic, and electric energies. It’s an idyllic and very popular hiking destination with hundreds of routes to explore.
