3 January 2026 by Guest

Nic Stevens, NSRI Mykonos station commander, said: At 17h02, Thursday, 1 January, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated following reports of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts in progress at Langebaan Main beach.

NSRI Mykonos crew, NSRI lifeguards, West Coast Medical Rescue and the SA Police Services responded.

On arrival on the scene it was found that a 26 year old male, from Burundi, had reportedly been found floating lifeless in the water by a kite-boarder who had recovered the man to the beach where a doctor, from Germany, a fellow kite-boarder, had initiated CPR.

Paramedics continued with extensive CPR efforts but after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted sadly he was declared deceased.

The body of the deceased man has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

An Inquest docket has been opened by Police.

The circumstances leading to the incident have not been determined.

Condolences are conveyed to family of the deceased man.
