Police Search and Rescue and Metro Police Search and Rescue, assisted by eThekwini lifeguards, are continuing in ongoing search efforts for a missing man at Durban South Beach.
Etienne van Zyl, NSRI Durban station commander, said: At around 08h00, Thursday, 1 January, while NSRI Durban were conducting routine training at sea onboard the NSRI Durban rescue craft Spirit of Surfski 6, we were activated by Police Search and Rescue to assist at Durban South Beach where the SA Police Services, Police Search and Rescue, Metro Police Coastal and Tourism Unit and eThekwini lifeguards were searching for a 22 year old male, from the Eastern Cape, who had reportedly gone missing in the surf zone at the beach some time earlier in the morning.
The NSRI rescue craft diverted to the scene and joined in the extensive search efforts.
A Police Air Wing helicopter joined in the search operation.
Despite the extensive air, sea and shoreline search there remains no signs of the missing man.
