WELKOM – The Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes (SVC) have launched investigations into a case of murder after a man was fatally shot at a filling station in Flamingo Park, Welkom.

On Tuesday, 01 September 2026 at about 18:49, police were summoned to a shooting incident at Constantia Road. On their arrival on the scene they were alerted to the body of a male lying motionless on the driveway. The victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. Setsumi Jeremiah Motaung (49) was declared deceased on the scene.

According to information the victim was standing at fuel pump next to his black Mercedes Benz C Class vehicle. He was then allegedly approached by two unknown males wielding handguns. The two suspects allegedly fired several shots towards the victim before fleeing the scene on foot. The victim was fatally wounded.

The motive for the murder is unknown at this stage. No arrests have been made yet. Investigations into tracing the possible suspects are underway.

Police are urging anyone with information that could assist with investigations to come forward. Detective Sergeant Katlego Nketsi of the Welkom Serious and Violent Crimes can be contacted on 072 198 0697.
