On Wednesday, 06 November 2024 at 00h30 Rand Water’s Palmiet Booster Pumping Station experienced a power failure that affected normal water supply. After investigation by the technical teams from both Rand Water and Eskom, it was detected that there is no power failure on the Eskom network and the infrastructure was operating as per normal. Rand Water discovered that arcing had occurred on a breaker on their side and as a result could only pump about 80% of the load. The two teams collaborated to quickly address the issue and power was restored by 03h50. Palmiet Booster Station started operating at 85% capacity when power was restored while repairs on the incomer breaker were underway. The incomer breaker was repaired, and Palmiet Booster Station started operating at full capacity (100%) from 19H45 on 06 November 2024.
This incident has led to reduced water levels at the following Rand Water reservoirs:
• Klipriviersberg
• Klipfontein
• Haartebeeshoek
• Brakfontein
• Germiston
• Northridge
• Airfield
All areas supplied by the above-mentioned reservoirs are likely to experience low water pressure and some areas may experience shortage for a few days.
Rand Water and Eskom remain dedicated to delivering reliable services and supporting each other to ensure the continuous provision of essential services to their customers.
