Red Ribbon Communications, a leading tech PR firm in South Africa, is proud to announce that Ida-Marié van der Merwe has been appointed to the Public Relations and Communications Association (PRCA) Africa NextGen committee.

The PRCA Africa NextGen group, since its launch in 2022, has been helping to empower emerging public relations talent across the continent through learning resources, networking opportunities, and mentorship – principles that resonate deeply with Ida-Marié.

Reflecting on her own journey, Ida-Marié says, “My journey into PR was unconventional – I didn’t study it, and I had no formal experience when I started as a young adult. But sometimes, success is the only option you have. Hard work, resilience, and the right mentorship have been key to my growth, and I hope my story can encourage other young professionals to keep pushing forward, no matter where they start.”

Cherná Lutta, PR Operations Director at Dialogue Communications and Chair of the PRCA Africa NextGen Board, highlights the group’s dedication: “Over the past three years, our board members have selflessly dedicated their time and energy to championing our initiatives. We are relentless in our pursuit to support and nurture young PR talent across the region. Our initiatives aim to inspire, educate and foster best practices for professional and personal growth.”

Ida-Marié’s own beliefs echo those at the foundation of the PRCA’s philosophy, perfectly. “I know firsthand how important it is to have access to the right opportunities, guidance, and industry insights. PRCA Africa NextGen is creating a platform that bridges the gap between education and real-world experience, helping young PR professionals navigate their careers with confidence. I’m excited to be part of a board that is dedicated to uplifting and empowering the next wave of PR talent across Africa.”

Red Ribbon Communications is thrilled to support Ida-Marié in her new role and believes her insights and experience will be a valuable asset to the PRCA Africa NextGen committee. Her appointment reflects our company’s own commitment to fostering talent and contributing to the advancement of the PR profession in Africa.
