The 2026/27 budget of the uMhlathuze Local Municipality (Empangeni, Richards Bay) represents another milestone in the restoration of local service delivery.

For the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus), as part of the IFP/DA/ACDP coalition government in this Municipality, the main aim is providing upgraded, uninterrupted and high-quality service delivery to every resident.

The coalition already has a good reputation for its financial discipline and practical solutions, as confirmed by the audit reports of the Auditor-General (AG). These reports named uMhlathuze as one of the few municipalities with sound financial management and increased compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).

The Freedom Front Plus intends to build on this reputation and ensure that the current momentum is not lost.

It is important to ensure that the budget not only looks good on paper, but that it actually contributes to the restoration and maintenance of local infrastructure. Service delivery and infrastructure remain the central pillars of the budget.

These are the Freedom Front Plus’s key priorities for the Municipality:

  • Sustainable service delivery: reliable water, electricity, refuse removal and basic services without interruptions.
  • Infrastructure: prioritising budget allocations directly aimed at upgrading and maintaining ageing systems.
  • Strict oversight: as part of the coalition, the Freedom Front Plus will closely monitor the implementation of the budget to ensure that every cent allocated for service delivery is in fact used for that purpose.

The budget process serves as the blueprint for the year ahead. The party and coalition’s next task is to ensure that this blueprint is translated into tangible improvements at grass-roots level through hard work.

Service delivery is not a political game; it is about the people’s quality of life.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep exercising oversight to ensure that service delivery remains the Municipality’s top priority.
