The Sol Plaatje Municipal Council failed to meet for the second time in a month. This time, the meeting was cancelled before it even started, because too many councillors had indicated they would not attend.

According to a letter from the Speaker, Ms Dipuo Peters, she cancelled the meeting that was supposed to take place today (8 October at 14:00), because a significant number of apologies for absence were received from councillors. While quorum could not be achieved during the opening of the meeting on 2 October, the Speaker simply assumed that one would not be achieved today either.

This is despite the fact that she specifically convened the follow-up meeting to allow the current Council to finalise certain matters related to property transactions.

Apparently, the Speaker no longer deems it important.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) regards councillors’ unwillingness to properly conclude their work for this term as an insult to Kimberley residents. The newly elected Council will have to consider all these items from scratch.

The Freedom Front Plus reiterates its demand that the Speaker should publish every meeting’s full attendance list with absences and apologies on the municipal website. Voters have the right to know which parties let residents down again and again.

Freedom Front Plus Civic Education: The party promotes civic education among its members and supporters.

A boer went to the appliance store sale and found a bargain. \”I would like to buy this TV,\” hetold the salesman. \”Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. He hurried home, took a shower, changed his clothes and combed his hair, then came back and again told the salesman \”I would like to buy this TV.\” \”Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. \”Bliksem, he recognized me,\” he thought. So he went for a complete disguise this time, haircut and new color, shaved off the baard, suit and tie, fake glasses, then waited a few days before he again approached the salesman. \”I would like to buy this TV.\” Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. Frustrated, he exclaimed \”Jislaaik, man! How do you know I\’m a boer?\”\”Because that\’s a microwave,\” the salesman replied.

Be careful of the man who stays calm and smiles in a crisis for he has already found someone to put the fault on.
