Solontsi Takes Over Captaincy

19 October 2026 by Guest

Sizophila Solontsi will take over the Springbok Women captaincy duties for the final two tests in the WXV Global Series – against Ireland in Cape Town on 24 and 31 October – after Babalwa Latsha was ruled out of the series due to an ankle injury.

The experienced Solontsi co-captained the side with Unam Tose against Italy last month, with Tose named vice-captain for the two Tests, the first internationals between the two countries on South African soil.

Latsha was withdrawn from the squad on Saturday at the conclusion of their training camp in Stellenbosch, while it was also confirmed that Nombuyekezo Mdliki has failed to recover from her rib injury sustained against Spain earlier this month.

Their replacements will be confirmed on Monday.
