South African ‘refugees’ return home after brief stays | SA News

Several South Africans who relocated to the United States under a controversial refugee resettlement programme have returned home after only a short stay, with others reportedly reconsidering their decision.

The development was confirmed through government correspondence, amid growing scrutiny of the programme introduced by US President Donald Trump.

The initiative, which mainly targeted white Afrikaner farmers, was established following claims of a so-called ‘white genocide’ in South Africa, assertions widely dismissed as disinformation by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
