South Africa’s Economy Expands By 0.8% With Manufacturing, Mining And Trade Leading Growth | SA News

According to the report, the manufacturing, mining and trade sectors led growth on the production (supply) side of the economy. StatsSA stated that the expenditure (demand) side was also positive, supported by stronger household consumption and softer imports.

Manufacturing production rose by 1.8%, largely supported by the automotive as well as the petroleum, chemicals, rubber, and plastics sectors. Mining output increased by 3.7%—its fastest growth since th first quarter of 2021 (4.4%)—with platinum group metals, gold, and chromium ore emerging as the key positive contributors.
