Gaborone, Botswana, 25 March 2025: St. George’s University (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, recently hosted an information session in Gaborone, Botswana. The event provided prospective students and their parents with insights into SGU’s medical program offerings, student support services, and career opportunities.
During the session, Marios Loukas, Dean of the School of Medicine at SGU, delivered a live presentation from Grenada via Zoom. He discussed SGU’s medical research and educational approach and shared information about life in Grenada and on campus.
Bradley Wade, Regional Director of Recruitment, Africa at SGU, shared his thoughts on the event: “This session was an opportunity to highlight the benefits of studying medicine at SGU and to provide attendees with detailed information on the four-year MD program and the five- or six-year MD tracks. It was valuable to meet with students and alumni in Botswana, who offered their experiences and insights. Botswana remains an important part of SGU’s international community, given the number of doctors who have completed their training with us.”
The session included a panel discussion with current SGU students and alumni, who spoke about academics, clinical training, and their experiences after graduation. SGU alumni also provided guidance on the interview process, including common questions and strategies to prepare for admission.
A question-and-answer segment allowed attendees to engage directly with SGU representatives. Additionally, an interactive session introduced participants to basic suturing techniques under the guidance of an SGU faculty member.
With over 127 SGU graduates from Botswana and 45 current students, SGU continues to support aspiring medical professionals from the region as they pursue careers in healthcare.
