US continues campaign to undermine South Africa and G20 | SA News

True to his word, US President Donald Trump will be notable by his absence at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg this week.

Earlier this year, citing his “problems with South Africa”, including his perception of a genocide of white Afrikaners, Trump said he “probably won’t” attend the summit hosted by South Africa.

Some experts say Washington has been on a mission to delegitimise the event, and this week, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said it would showcase strong American leadership when it takes over hosting duties next year.

Professor Patrick Bond from the University of Johannesburg said the US was working with a small group of allies.
