Nic Stevens, NSRI Mykonos station commander, said: At 23h19, Sunday, 22 September, NSRI Mykonos duty crew were activated following reports from Vredenburg SA Police Services of 2 adult men, age 29, and 3 children, age 14, 7 and 4, all from St Helena, overdue on a craft on the Berg River, Veldrift. Family had reported the boaters overdue at Vredenburg Police Station.
Our NSRI rescue vehicle, towing the rescue craft JetRib, Rescue 4 Bravo, was dispatched while the SA Police Services initiated a shoreline patrol in the area for the 5 overdue boaters.
Veldrift Police reported seeing a group of people, matching the description of the boaters, stranded on a sand bank near to Knorvarkie on the Berg River.
On NSRI arriving on the scene the rescue craft was launched and in 2 relays all 5 were all ferried to mainland, from the sand bank, and their craft was recovered without incident and no further assistance was required.
