The Freedom Front Plus (VF) today announced the well-known attorney Willie Spies as its mayoral candidate for the Tshwane Metro in the 2026 local government elections. Grandi Theunissen, an experienced councillor and local government expert, will lead the Freedom Front Plus’s campaign alongside him.

Together, they make an experienced and knowledgeable team determined to restore the capital to its former glory.

With his introduction, Willie stated that he has realistic hopes, and that he believes collaboration between politicians, the business sector, civil organisations and the public can achieve what seems almost impossible – resurrecting the Metro from the ashes.

He describes his return to politics after sixteen years as emotional yet exciting, adding that he is up for the challenge.

He has been a resident of Pretoria for 50 years; and his law firm, Hurter Spies, has become a household name in South Africa due to what he has achieved in the field of civil litigation.

Willie served as a Freedom Front Plus Member of Parliament from 2004 to 2009 and has since successfully represented AfriForum in numerous high-profile court cases.

He recently stepped down as executive chairperson of Pretoria FM to devote all his attention to the Freedom Front Plus and the Tshwane mayoral campaign.

The Freedom Front Plus has no doubt that Willie is the ideal candidate for Tshwane, precisely because he knows and understands the Metro’s unique challenges from personal experience.

These include practical problems stemming from maladministration, corruption and incompetence, such as power outages, water crises, crumbling infrastructure and collapsing service delivery.

He shares the frustration of residents who pay taxes, but receive no value or services in return.

The Tshwane Metro is a strategic hub for the Freedom Front Plus; and the time has come to establish a stable, viable coalition to make the Metro fully functional again.

The Freedom Front Plus calls on all Tshwane residents to support Willie Spies and Grandi Theunissen, and to join the Freedom Front Plus in building a winning team to promote the interests of every resident of this once prosperous jewel of Africa.

Pretoria deserves better than the current decline and by joining hands with the Freedom Front Plus, it can be done.
