Johannesburg: Artificial intelligence tools are increasingly embedded in everyday workplace activity. From drafting emails to summarising reports, AI is now influencing how information is produced and communicated across organisations.

However, AI does not verify facts, apply judgment, or assume responsibility.

College Africa Group (CAG) is seeing a growing shift among South African organisations toward re-asserting human accountability as AI adoption accelerates.

“AI produces language, not truth,” says Arnold Muscat, Director at College Africa Group. “The moment organisations confuse fluency with correctness, risk enters the system.”

The challenge facing many teams is not whether to use AI, but how to use it without weakening decision-making, governance, or accountability. Confident-sounding AI outputs can easily be mistaken for validated information if staff are not trained to review, challenge, and contextualise results.

College Africa Group’s AI in the Workplace training programme focuses on the practical realities of AI use in business environments. Rather than teaching technical development or automation, the programme addresses how AI tools are actually used by employees in daily work.

This includes:

  • Understanding why AI outputs must always be reviewed and verified

  • Recognising the difference between generated language and organisational truth

  • Applying AI safely in emails, reports, administration, and workflow support

  • Using AI within POPIA and internal governance frameworks

  • Reinforcing that accountability cannot be delegated to technology

The programme is designed for HR, finance, admin, operations, and management teams who are already encountering AI in their work, often informally or without clear guidance.

According to College Africa Group, organisations that establish clear AI usage boundaries early are better positioned to benefit from productivity gains without introducing long-term risk.

The training is delivered onsite or virtually across South Africa and is positioned as a foundational step before more advanced or role-specific AI initiatives are introduced.
