The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) requested the Tshwane Metro’s Department of Environmental Affairs to clean the dam in the renowned Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary, which is covered in algae. This dam is supplemented with borehole water.

Located in Nieuw Muckleneuk, this dam with its remarkable bird and animal life is situated among embassies and office spaces, and is frequented by people seeking to enjoy nature.

The party also reached out to the Friends of the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary for their expertise and assistance in restoring the ecosystem. Environmental specialists, civil engineers and volunteers will all need to lend a helping hand.

Another major tourist attraction is a different dam in the Austin Roberts Bird Sanctuary, located next to the Blue Crane Restaurant. This dam was originally a quarry that the local municipality converted into a dam. Over the years, soil has washed into it, reducing the water level.

This dam is now so full of mud that ducks are struggling to swim in it. The Walker Tributary, which flows past the Brooklyn Mall, feeds into the dam and is clearly very polluted. The pollution is exacerbated by homeless individuals, living under a bridge by the stream, using the water for all their needs.

The dams in the Tshwane Metro’s reserves should be conserved for future generations and provide residents with an opportunity to enjoy nature.

Freedom Front Plus Public Engagement: The party actively engages in public debates and forums on national issues.
