The Chris Burger Petro Jackson Players’ Fund announced on Wednesday the appointment of Annie Dobson as its new CEO, taking over from Mark Kritzinger, who has stepped down after three years due to family commitments.
Dobson, who will start in the role on 1 July 2025, is a seasoned leader in the non-profit sector, bringing over three decades of experience in financial sustainability, fundraising, governance, and community development.
“Mark has done an outstanding job over the last three years and we’d like to thank him for his services to the Players’ Fund, and wish him and his family well on the next chapter in their lives,” said Jean de Villiers, Chairman of the Fund.
“At the same time, it’s very exciting to welcome Annie to our family. She brings a lot of experience to the role and we know she will make a difference in the lives of people who need it most.”
With a strong track record of helping organisations grow and thrive, she is known for building lasting partnerships, securing funding, and bringing sound business thinking to social causes.
Born into a rugby family and with a deep love of sport, Dobson holds a degree in Human Movement Science (with Disability) and English – a combination that resonates deeply with the work of the Players’ Fund.
“It feels like a calling,” said Dobson.
“I have remained fascinated and passionate about our country, the needs and strengths of our people, and committed to using the skills I have to make a difference.”
Kritzinger said: “Annie’s leadership marks an exciting new chapter for the Fund, as we continue to stand beside seriously injured rugby players and their families, and work to expand our impact across South Africa.
“It has been an incredible privilege to lead the Players’ Fund for the last three years. Even though I am stepping down as CEO, I hope to remain connected to the Fund for many years, supporting where I can from the UK,” he added.
