Bakoven: SUP Boarders Rescued

Roxy Taylor, NSRI Table Bay coxswain, said: At 12h53, Saturday, 6 December, NSRI Table Bay, NSRI Bakoven and the CoCT (City of Cape Town) water rescue network, were activated following eyewitness reports of 2 paddle boarders on a SUP (stand-up paddle board) appearing to be in difficulty offshore of Bakoven and being swept further out to sea in strong winds.

The NSRI Table Bay rescue craft Spirit of Day was launched.

While responding to the scene multiple calls were received from concerned eyewitnesses.

On arrival on the scene a local couple, an adult male and an adult female, were found a nautical mile offshore of Bakoven, caught in the 25 to 30 knot South Easterly winds.

They were both taken onboard our NSRI rescue craft and their paddle board was recovered.

They were not injured and we dropped them off at Camps Bay Beach where no further assistance was required.

The eyewitnesses are commended for raising the alarm.
