The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber has officially launched its highly anticipated Bay of Opportunity Ambassadors Programme, a pioneering initiative designed to position Nelson Mandela Bay as the investment destination of choice.

The programme leverages the influence, networks, and expertise of respected business leaders to create pathways for investment, business-to-business linkages, and partnerships, all focused on driving economic growth in the region. By engaging these influential ambassadors, the Chamber aims to unlock new opportunities, showcase the unique advantages of the Bay, and attract global investors.

“The Bay of Opportunity Ambassadors Programme is a collaborative strategy to attract investment, generate employment, and contribute to the region’s prosperity,” said Denise van Huyssteen, CEO of the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber. “Our ambassadors are not just advocates for our region; they are key players in fostering relationships that will bring new business and growth to the Bay. They will share the stories of success in Nelson Mandela Bay and showcase the potential for growth in sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, tourism, and renewable energy.”

Key features of the Bay of Opportunity Ambassadors Programme include:

  • Influential Ambassadors: A diverse group of prominent business leaders from various industries, passionate about the economic potential of Nelson Mandela Bay.
  • Promoting Investment: Ambassadors actively advocate for the Bay during business engagements, conferences and networking events, highlighting the region’s strategic location, skilled workforce and thriving business ecosystem.
  • Showcasing Local Success: Through real world examples, ambassadors demonstrate the success of businesses operating in the Bay, strengthening confidence in the region’s economic viability.
  • Unified Messaging: Ambassadors align their messaging with a cohesive narrative that emphasises the Bay’s strengths and its potential for growth in key sectors.

“The programme is not just about promoting the region – it’s about creating a united voice that highlights Nelson Mandela Bay as a hub for innovation and opportunity,” said van Huyssteen. “By having credible business leaders actively champion the Bay, we are fostering a sense of collective pride and commitment to driving economic success.”

As part of the programme, ambassadors will receive marketing materials to distribute within their networks, during business delegations they host, and on international travels, ensuring consistent and impactful messaging about the region’s business potential.

This initiative is an integral part of the Bay’s broader strategy to drive economic growth, increase investment, and present the Metro as a vibrant, thriving business destination.

Today’s launch of the Bay of Opportunity Ambassadors Programme marks a historical moment for the city as the Chamber continues to push the envelope to reposition Nelson Mandela Bay as the Bay of Opportunity. Some of the ambassadors, from left to right, are Pieter Nienaber (Sector Head: Automotive, Logistics and Industrials – Rand Merchant Bank), Tati Tsunke (General Manager – Boardwalk), Nomfundo Faltein (Managing Director – Orion Engineered Carbons), Alfie Jay (Managing Director – Algoa FM) and Siya Mthembu (Managing Director and Partner – BDO South Africa)

A green match – The development towards a sustainable future is of high priority in South Africa, and many of the challenges facing South Africa are solvable with Danish technology that ensures sustainability. An example is the South African water sector, which Denmark has supported since the fall of Apartheid in 1994. Today, Danish water companies thrive in the South African market, as Denmark is global leader in water use and efficiency, and deliver solutions that save water and energy.
