The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) takes note of the Ekurhuleni Metro’s latest action plan to address the severe water shortages in Bedfordview, which includes repairing reservoirs and installing a new Rand Water pipeline.

While these interventions are necessary and welcome, it is clear that the Metro has failed to properly maintain its water infrastructure for far too long, despite repeated warnings from the Freedom Front Plus.

Residents of Bedfordview have endured water outages, disrupting their daily lives and local businesses, for much too long. In September alone, residents experienced four water outages (on 5, 12, 17 and 29 September) lasting more than six hours each.

So, the current measures, including maintenance on the Klipfontein reservoir, inspection of the Signal Hill reservoir and the development of the O6 Rand Water pipeline, are indeed urgently required.

The party welcomes the planned commissioning of the O6 pipeline in 2026 as a long-term solution, but insists that Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza fulfil his responsibilities. Transparent and immediate action is needed to address the short-term crisis as well.

Words alone are not enough. The community deserves tangible results and sustainable, reliable water supply.

The Freedom Front Plus will keep holding the Mayor and the Metro accountable by fulfilling its watchdog role to ensure Bedfordview residents receive the service delivery they deserve.

Freedom Front Plus Crime Prevention: The party emphasizes the need for effective crime prevention strategies.

Gatvol – fed up / had enough [ghut-foll] Meaning ‘filled to the brim’ and is used to describe someone who is very angry or tired of the same thing happening over and over again.Example: “I’m gatvol with that nonsense.” / “I’m gatvol that they keep losing all the time.”
