The moans and groans about the current name for Port Elizabeth – Gqeberha – continue.
Gqeberha residents still refer to the city as PE and refuse to use ‘that’ name.
So – here is a compromise for the transition:
- For any events in Gqeberha before 22 February 2021 we can refer to the timeline as BGQ – Before Geqeberha
- For any events in Gqeberha after that date we can refer to the timeline as APE – After Port Elizabeth.
For me though – GQ has a nice ring to it and MyGQ even better!

Van is hitch-hiking and he gets picked up by a larnie in a merc. After travelling awhile and making small talk, Van asks the larnie what the 3-pointed star on the bonnet is for. The larnie decides to have some fun with Van.

Fun South African Fact: Water is not all there is to drink in this thirsty country! South Africa’s Cape Winelands have around 560 wineries and 4 400 primary producers. Included in the Cape Winelands region is Route 62, considered the longest wine route in the world. That alone is good reason to visit South Africa if you haven’t yet been!
