8 April 2025 by Guest

Kevin Fourie, NSRI Rocky Bay station commander, said: At 06h43, Tuesday, 8 April, NSRI Rocky Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a boat capsized in the surf zone near to Rocky Bay.

NSRI Rocky Bay crew, IPSS Medical Rescue, the SA Police Services and Police Search and Rescue (WPDS – Water Policing and Diving Services) responded.

On arrival on the scene CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts were in progress on one man and the remaining 4 crew members, of a local charter dive boat that had capsized in the surf zone, were safely ashore suffering minor injuries

Extensive CPR efforts were conducted on the man, confirmed to be the local 55 year old skipper of the local boat, sadly after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted he was declared deceased.

The deceased man had been rescued from the surf by 2 local men, Good Samaritans, who also assisted in recovering the 4 remaining crew members.

The body of the man has been taken into the care of Police and Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.

Police have opened an Inquest docket.

Condolences are conveyed to family, friends and colleagues of the deceased man.

2 of the surviving 4 crew, all local adult males, were medically treated for injuries but did not require hospitalisation.

The casualty boat was recovered by the Health and Safety officer of the Ski-boat Club assisted by other helpers.

A boer went to the appliance store sale and found a bargain. \”I would like to buy this TV,\” hetold the salesman. \”Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. He hurried home, took a shower, changed his clothes and combed his hair, then came back and again told the salesman \”I would like to buy this TV.\” \”Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. \”Bliksem, he recognized me,\” he thought. So he went for a complete disguise this time, haircut and new color, shaved off the baard, suit and tie, fake glasses, then waited a few days before he again approached the salesman. \”I would like to buy this TV.\” Sorry, we don\’t sell to boere,\” the salesman replied. Frustrated, he exclaimed \”Jislaaik, man! How do you know I\’m a boer?\”\”Because that\’s a microwave,\” the salesman replied.
