An apartment block still under construction collapsed in George on Monday afternoon, trapping about 46 people under the rubble.
At least one body was found, according to SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies.
George municipality said in a statement on Monday evening that 22 injured people had been rescued and transported to nearby medical facilities.
Officials from George Municipality, SAPS, and Western Cape Government were on the scene on Monday to conduct a search and rescue operation.
Gift of the Givers was also on the scene to assist the rescue operation.
The cause of the building’s collapse is still unknown.
