The Ekurhuleni Metro’s failure to secure power infrastructure has left large parts of Kempton Park without electricity since cable thieves struck again three days ago.

The affected areas are Pomona, Pomona Estate, Brentwood Park and parts of Glen Marais.

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) is inundated with calls from residents complaining that their perishable food is spoiling, business operations have been disrupted and matriculants have to prepare for their final exams using torches or candlelight.

The party has repeatedly called on the Metro to have local security companies collaborate with the Metro’s security services in combating the theft and vandalism of power infrastructure. These appeals have fallen on deaf ears, though.

Unguarded power networks in Kempton Park have become a playground for syndicates.

In addition, it is unacceptable that the Metro’s Department of Energy is failing to communicate important information to residents and councillors, such as when electricity supply is expected to be restored.

The Freedom Front Plus will not keep quiet while the Metro’s incompetence and laxity erode public trust.

It is high time for a party that has residents’ best interests at heart and will offer Kempton Park viable solutions to take over governance.
