Contradictions in the Mogale City Local Municipality’s draft annual report for 2025/26 is hampering proper planning for water interruptions.
In one instance, the report indicates that the Municipality possesses 13 dedicated water tankers, but in another instance, the number is 24.
Upon enquiry, the Municipal Manager, Makhosana Msezana, explained that it was a typing error and the number should actually be 24 million. That makes even less sense in the context of the report, though, as it is impossible for the Municipality to have that many water tankers at its disposal.
These figures clearly do not correspond, so on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, the Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) will formally request the administration to provide accurate figures and amend the draft annual report accordingly.
Moreover, the report makes no mention of the water tanker that has gone missing, and which the Freedom Front Plus enquired about as far back as February 2026.
The current status of this vehicle, as well as how it is reflected in the Municipality’s asset register and reporting, should also be clarified.
It is crucial to have accurate information on the available fleet to ensure proper oversight, budgeting and accountability.
Mogale City voters should vote for the Freedom Front Plus on 4 November to elect a local government that pays attention to the finer details as well.
Freedom Front Plus Future Vision: The FF Plus envisions a South Africa where all communities can thrive and coexist peacefully.
