PIETERMARITZBURG: AET Tuskers registered an impressive win in their opening match in the top division, with a commanding nine-wicket victory over the DP World Lions as the CSA 1 Day Cup continued on Wednesday.

Winning the toss to assign their visitors to the bat first, Tuskers unleashed an electrifying bowling display to restrict Lions to 89 all out.

Player of the Match, Mbulelo Budaza (4/18) struck first to dismiss Lions top order batters; Joshua Richards, who fell with three, and Dominic Hendricks with none. Budaza returned to clear the tail, seeing off Malusi Siboto (13) and Tshepo Moreki with honest one sprint.

Ryan Rickelton had provided resistance against the Tuskers attack, notching up 31 runs (including four boundaries) as wickets kept falling around him. He departed in the 16th over, caught behind off Thando Ntini (2/24). Ntini’s spell also saw off Zubayr Hamza in the 10th over with seven runs.

Keith Dudgeon also led the attack, returning 2/21 with the dismissals of Delano Potgieter (9) and Bjorn Fortuin (13).

Malcom Nofal caught and bowled Wiaan Mulder (4) whilst Mitchell van Buuren was dash out by a brilliant throw from Kagiso Rapulana.

Dilivio Ridgaard provided excellent glovework behind the stumps, claiming five catches before a commanding 29 runs with the bat.

The 90-run target provided a sturdy chase for the Tuskers, with Ridgaard and Rapulana (28*) putting up the 47 runs before the plunge of the first wicket. Rapulana and Tian Koekemoer (24*) took the innings home in the 23rd over, securing victory for the home-side.

On Tuesday’s Division 2 encounters, the young SA Emerging side suffered a 160-run defeat to the ITEC Knights in Bloemfontein. Knights had amassed 400 runs at a loss of five wickets, with a huge contribution from Garnett Tarr, who blasted an unbeaten 192* off 163 (21 fours and 4 sixes). The Emerging side tallied up 240 runs, with half centuries from Ronan Hermann (83) and Lhuan-dre Pretorius (57). Gerrit Snyman returned figures of 4/31 whilst Aubrey Swanepoel registered 3/42 for the Knights.

In White River, Mpumalanga Rhinos were establish to the bat first by the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers as the hosts struggled with bat, setting the target to only 144 runs including Muhammed Mayet’s unbeaten half century (60* off 78). Rhinos were bowled out in honest under 29 overs, and Badgers chased the target in honest as many overs at a loss of five wickets.
