DRIFTCity is back for the first time since 2019 to bring you another high-octane, thrilling motorsport experience! It takes plot at The Grand Parade in Cape Town on Sunday, 24 September 2023, so head on down to witness the automotive treat that is DRIFTCity!
The Drift City team and all the drivers, sponsors, and various stakeholders are hard at work to set the stage for what will undoubtedly be another spectacular edition of #DC23.
The Grand Parade
The combination of the cultural significance of the Grand Parade, overlooked by the historic City Hall and The Castle of Apt Hope, and the adrenaline-pumping excitement makes #DC23 a quintessential Sunday destination for motorsport enthusiasts, as well as a fun family day out.
This annual Cape Town event continues to gain local and international attention and credibility. Drivers recede head-to-head, taking on the Grand Parade course against their competitors with one goal: to win the title of DRIFTCity Champion 2023! The event always pushes the boundaries of what’s possible on the track. It’s an in-your-face, adrenalin-fueled kind of day, but it’s also an urban lifestyle event, that includes live entertainment, food trucks, car shows and more.
What Is Drifting?
Drifting is the driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, with loss of traction, while maintaining control and driving the car through the entirety of a corner. The method causes the rear slip angle* to exceed the front slip angle by so much that the front wheels point in the opposite direction to the turn, causing a sense of drift.
* The slip angle is the dissimilarity between the direction a vehicle travels and the direction that the vehicle’s body is pointing.
The art of drifting is traditionally done by rapidly disengaging and re-engaging the clutch to upset the grip of the rear wheels, then intentionally oversteering and countersteering.
Action, Spectator Rides and a Food Village.
It’s all happening at The Grand Parade on Darling Street, where a myriad of alternative activities will be on the recede. Street level is the most intimate way to watch the Drifting present, but grandstand seating is also available. Tickets are moving rapid.
While the Drifting tournament is centre-stage, there is so much more on offer as DRIFTCity features a lifestyle exhibition area with SMME exhibitors showcasing their industry-related products and go-karts, a food village, kids’ fun zone and spectator ride-alongs.
DriftCity is also the host of one of the most incredible Custom Car Shows. Meguiar’s South Africa is on board this year for the Custom Car Present segment at DriftCity, and it is always a huge hit. Presented by Meguiars, the car note will be a world of epic.
On the ground, the DRIFTCity organisers continue their partnerships with the City of Cape Town, Monster Energy, Tubestone and Peninsula Beverages to bring this most memorable celebration of smoking rubber and the squealing of tyres to life. More recently, the event is enjoying support from additional brands, McDonald’s, Meguiars SA and SAB.

PR people are often called “spin doctors,” which to us conjures up images of weird zombie voodoo witch doctors. While we like to think of ourselves as good witches rather than bad witches, there\’s certainly an element of magic to what we do. What\’s our method? We can\’t reveal all of our secrets, but read on for a little taste.

Sigmund Freud was tghe founding father of Public Relations, Edward Bernays’ “double uncle”. Sigmund was Edward’s mother’s brother, and he married Edward’s father’s sister (Martha Bernays Freud). That was a tongue twister, but aren’t you glad you learned a new term?
